Welcome to Our School |
| A National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence and one of two high schools in the City of Frederick, GOVERNOR THOMAS JOHNSON HIGH SCHOOL educates students drawn from rural, suburban and urban communities. SAT and other test scores are consistently high, and 87% of our graduates continue their education following graduation. In the late 1980s, TJ began offering a countywide visual and performing arts magnet program, now called the Arts and Communications Academy. In addition, TJ was one of the first public high schools in Maryland to pioneer the creative 4-period day scheduling model in the early 1990s. With the opening of the new Governor Thomas Johnson Middle School in 2000, the building began a transformation from a combined middle and high school serving grades 6-12 to a high school for grades 9-12. The school has gone through many physical changes in recent years, with the 2002-03 school year bringing the final phase to a major renovation and producing a state-of-the-art learning facility in which students and staff take enormous pride. During school year 2006-2007, TJ celebrated its 40th anniversary with special activities recognizing 40 years of pride.
