Welcome to Our School
LEWISTOWN ELEMENTARY is in beautiful, rural Frederick County, at the base of the Catoctin Mountains. There has been a school in this historic community since the 1800s. Lewistown is an elementary school proud of its heritage, a true community school. In fact, several staff members and many parents of our students attended school here.

LES maintains high expectations for all students to support growth in academic, social and emotional areas. We value and promote a strong home-to-school partnership in order to develop a sound community of learners, and invite families and others to become active participants in the school.

We utilize the six pillars of Character Counts! -- Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring and Citizenship. We recognize students through quarterly PAWS program for academic achievement and attendance. We also recognize positive and appropriate behaviors through PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention Systems). Character Counts, consistency and routines are the foundation for success in our school.

Lewistown Elementary is also home to the countywide Pyramid Program (formerly STEP), which operates as a school-within-a-school, is for elementary-age students in grades 1-5 with emotional and behavioral needs. The program assists students with coping techniques, anger management and other skills needed for school success. Students are placed in this therapeutic program through the county’s Individualized Education Program (IEP) process.

LES is a dynamic learning community. We value all students and the diversity they bring to our school. We work to develop strong relationships with students and their families to support the FCPS mission: “Working Together to Educate Each Child and Promote Success.” The Lewistown mission statement is “Together We Will Learn, Excel, and Succeed.”
