FCPS
Student Involvement
Board
of Education: An FCPS junior or senior serves a 1-year term
as student representative to the BOE beginning each July. Applications
are available from high school principals and Student Government Association
advisors each spring. The following link takes you to more information
about the Board of Education, from which you may view a profile of and
contact information for this year's student representative: http://www.fcps.org/content/boe.cfm
Clubs/Social Activities: Many schools
offer clubs and social activities. Check for details in individual school
profiles and web sites at http://www.fcps.org/content/schools.cfm.
Peer
Mentors/Mediation: Most schools have peer mentor/mediation
programs in which school counselors or student-support teachers train
students to act as mediators to help classmates resolve conflicts. Some
schools also train peer mentors to act as ambassadors in welcoming and
helping new students adjust to their school. For more information, please
visit your school web site, and talk with your school counselor.
Service
Learning: Service learning links academic learning with student
service that benefits the community.
