Position: School Bus Driver (Non-Benefited)

Location: Transportation Department


Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Ability to read and write as demonstrated by successfully passing FCPS pre-service instructional training course as required pursuant to COMAR 13a.06.07, paragraph .08A.
  • No more than two (2) current points on driving record and a satisfactory past driving record, as determined by the Director of Transportation.
  • Ability to use and maintain FCPS email account.
  • At least 21 years of age.
  • Five (5) years of driving experience, during which time you held a valid drivers license.
  • Meet all Motor Vehicle Licensing requirements for a commercial drivers license (CDL) with a passenger endorsement.
  • Satisfactorily pass the appropriate medical examination for school vehicle drivers as stated in COMAR 11.19.05.01.
  • Receive a negative controlled substance test as required under COMAR 13a.06.07 paragraph .09
  • Satisfactorily pass the appropriate medical examinations for school vehicle drivers prior to each anniversary date.
  • Maintain a driving record in accordance with COMAR 13A.06.07, paragraph .06
  • Must be capable of lifting a minimum of 50 lbs.
  • Capable of performing the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with the FCPS policies, goals and programs.

    Essential Functions:

    The School Bus Driver drives children safely to and from the various schools on regular routes and school-sponsored field trips. Reporting directly to the Assistant Transportation Manager, the School Bus Driver performs the following duties:

  • Follows the route description as it is written.
  • Maintains the discipline of the students.
  • Submits required forms by due date.
  • Sees that the bus is kept clean, in good mechanical condition, and sees that preventive maintenance is performed.
  • Attends all in-service training meetings as required.

    Other Duties:

  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Assistant Transportation Manager.

    Salary:

  • Support Salary Scale, Grade 7, 10-month position (180 days)
  • Starting Salary $15.46
